Back to school often means "back to germs". Your kids are exposed to a germ pool that is new to them, and often, their immune systems cannot keep up! Combine this with the physical adjustments that go along with going back to school and sometimes their bodies are more susceptible to illness due to physical and emotional stress and strain as well.
There are a few things you can do to help your kiddos fight off colds and flu. First and foremost, be sure they're getting the rest and sleep they need. Sleep is our body's way of recovering each day. Without it, our defenses are not as strong as they can be and thus, we're more likely to get sick.
Encourage healthy habits! Be sure your little ones know the importance of washing their hands - and the correct way to do it! Two seconds under running water doesn't cut it! Soap, warm water, and ideally, at least 20 seconds is what you hope for! Teach them not to share food and drinks with their friends, to cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze, and not to put their hands in their eyes, nose, and mouth. Washing hands often, particularly if you have a cold, is the best way to stay healthy.
Incorporating preventive care into their daily routine is also a great way to help stave off illness. Enter or KidSafe Collection!
